I knew I would enjoy the book from the cover. It looked so interesting and you immediately wanted to know what the girls story was, what had happened to cause her to be be half cyborg. I really enjoyed the writing style and even though it did not take me long to finish I loved every second reading this book. I felt like I was right there beside Kaitlyn, I needed to know what else was happening in her life and if she was going to get sent away.
I hoped that she didn't. I am happy with how the story finished but unhappy the fact there is another book as I don't know the full story.
I enjoyed Lucas's character but was unsure if their relationship blurred the ethics of the relationship and I really enjoyed her friendship with Quess and was glad that Kaitlyn had a friend she could confide in. I really can't wait to read the next book.
I would highly recommend this book to others. Five out of five stars is a given. This is the first book by Julia Crane that I have read and after reading Freak of Nature I am now looking forward to reading more from this author. The story is unusual and I can imagine lots more books to follow, well I'm hoping there is. I really enjoyed this book it was very easy to read with a gripping story line that was totally different from anything I have read before.
The characters were believable as well as being lovable I can not wait to read the next book in this series. Highly recommended! I had been meaning to read this for some time and finally completed it. The blurb should provide enough of an idea about the premise of the story. The story itself was interesting and you soon find yourself carried along with the story and all the twists in the plot, even those some could be seen coming long before they arrive. The story was better than I had anticipated, however, towards the end of the story it takes on a very feminist stance which was unnecessary and hence I have some reservations regarding the next books in the series.
In a top secret facility Kaitlyn quickly realises she isn't completely human but discovers that she still has her emotions, which she clearly hides from her creators. A story of self learning, awareness, love and humanity. This was such a lovely story you truely get swept away in the world of Kaitlyn. The characters are engaging and the way Julia writes this story you feel all the emotion's especially Kaitlyn's. Lucas is such a likeable character you feel for him in away his contant struggle with his feelings and the guilt he holds over Kaitlyn's is alittle heartbreaking.
With the lies that have been told and her battle with hiding her true self and finding out who she was this book makes you think. Oh my god what if there is half human half robots out there.!!! Did it make me want to read it? Yes it did. It interfered with my current novel; good for Julia bad for me. I enjoyed it greatly, I've read reviews that make out that Kate would be more vengeful to her doctors and to Lucas. I don't think so, she was in her early teens when awoken.
I think she was portrayed accurately. All our novels have them, here there were very few for me. I'd have taken longer to develop her relationship with Lucas but that's me; I'm not right, just different. I'd definitely recommend Freak of Nature.
It was though a little obvious that this It was though a little obvious that this was going to be the first in a series. But for all of that I enjoyed it , a light read but worth the effort. I usually have to be in a certain mood to take on these reads. I don't want to be too overwhelmed with jargon that will lose my interest. Freak of Nature is a perfect book for readers that are stuck in a rut and open mix things up. Even if you've never read sci-fi before, Freak of Nature is a perfect introduction to this genre. The main character is half human, half robot.
Crane, Julia Valknut Press.
In my opinion this was her best book to date. Hiding that she still has feelings and desperately trying to cling to, and understand what emotions she has left, we follow Kate as she tries regain her humanity and freedom. What good would it do to find out she had family and friends who thought she was dead? I really can't wait to read the next book. I was immediately dragged in by the cover for this book, I got this book without even reading the synopsis. Her friendship with Quess helped her in gaining the bits and pieces of her past but also helped shape her future. Since I basically told you the whole story, now you can judge it for yourself and tell me what you think of it with me ;.
Kindle Edition. From the blurb, you know this is against her knowledge, she technically "died" and became property of a science experiment. The science behind it wasn't cruel or distributing, everything was kept very simple and on task.
The science aspect isn't too heavy. The narrator addresses the gadgets that make her function, how she looks and what she thinks, but it's very easy to understand and believe. The writing altogether flows perfectly. You can sense the hopelessness that Kaitlyn feels when she observes her blank, white walls and projected future use; a weaponized super soldier. At first you may think that Lucas being turned on by a "robot" is a little disturbing.
The guilt had not left him since she arrived. If anything, it had increased. She was a person, a human.
A beautiful, living, helpless girl chosen to become Dr. He wished he had known her before they altered her personality. The end of her training and programming leads us to the next step of her new life, being sold to the highest bidder. In this case, the members of the armed forces. Author Julia Crane, briefly touches on this part, careful not to lead us astray into government discussions.
The tempo is picked up again as Lucas installs Kate's old memories and she starts to recount her last life. There is suspense and adventure leading to a cliff-hanger that addresses Kaitlyn's new goal in "life". There were several men and women sitting behind a long table; backs straight, and all eyes solely on Kaitlyn as she entered. Many were dressed in military uniforms. Army, Navy, and Air Force. Thanks, computers, she thought, slightly annoyed.
Freak of Nature is the first in the IFICS series and I would recommend it to readers looking for a change in their genre but don't want to completely cut out the romance from their read. Format: Paperback Verified Purchase. This was ok But let me say something first before I continue on So don't you dare compare it. I'm so glad that was established.
